Mediterranean: Meeting and Alliance of Civilizations

June 4, 2009

In the book “Mediterranean: Meeting and Alliance of Civilizations” you will find the full text of the debate that took place on December 9-10 2005, during the Regional Seminar of the World Political Forum gathered in Granada, Spain. This seminar was specifically convened to consider the situation in the Mediterranean area ten years after the launching of the process of Barcelona. “We planned to profit from this anniversary, said Gorbachev, in order to analyze the worrying situation in this area and to look for solutions of the serious problems that we can see accumulating here in the last years. Our common impression is that the two banks of the Mediterranean sea instead of coming closer continue to move away from each other”.

The World Political Forum gathered together in the ancient palaces of the Alhambra outstanding political figures, historians and world renowned experts from the countries of the Mediterranean region, as well as from the USA, Russia and Iran. Among them, the former Prime-Ministers of Spain, France, Malta and Turkey, members of the European Parliament, former Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Education, and Culture from Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Israel, Yugoslavia, scholars and public figures from other countries of the region.

Three working papers written by Ambassador Luigi Cavalchini, professor Predrag Matvejevich and professor Amitai Etzioni are included in the volume.

“Mediterranean: Meeting and Alliance of Civilizations” is edited by Andrei Grachev and Chiara Blengino and published by L’Harmattan.
