Mr. Gianni De Michelis is a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, representing Italy. He is a member of the EU Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, Subcommittee on Security and Defense, and a member of the delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and Arab Maghreb Union (including Libya) and the delegation for relations with the Gulf States. He was the Italian Minister for State Holdings from 1980-1983, Minister of Labour from 1986-1988, Deputy Prime Minister from 1988-1989, and Foreign Minister 1989-1992. MEP Michelis was Chairman of the ASPEN Institute in Italy from 1984-1992, and has been on its executive committee since 2001.
