In may 2003 with the foundation of the World Political Forum the original idea of the Nobel Prize Laureate Mikhail Gorbachev took shape. The founding conference was held in Turin where world leaders past and present met together responding to the invitation of President Gorbachev and the Italian sponsoring committee to promote meetings between high level personalities in the political, scientific, cultural and religious life of different continents, faiths, languages and cultures, in order to analyse the issue of interdependence and to face the new problems connected with globalisation and those that affect humankind today.
