Domenica 11 settembre, ore 10.00

Thursday 11 November, 4.00 pm
Monumental Complex of S. Croce, Bosco Marengo

During his stay in Piedmont to receive the “International Book Fair Prize “, the Israeli writer will meet the public, the institutions and local associations based in the Province of Alessandria.

Author of essays, novels and children’s books, Amos Oz is recognized as one of the most important voices in world literature, and has become a prominent figure of the Israeli peace movement.

His essay How to Cure a Fanatic tackles the problem of modern fanaticism as one of the most insidious evils of contemporary world and a serious obstacle to any peace process, including that between Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs. The book illustrates the nature of fanaticism in order to suggest suitable paths to overcoming it. The author’s attention focuses particularly on the concept of compromise as mediation, the ability to meet the “other”, recognizing the dignity of his views.

All his work, moreover, mirrors the active commitment of Amos Oz in favour of peace, a commitment that perfectly matches with the devotion of the Province of Alessandria in promoting and encouraging the presence, over all its territory, of cultural institutions and associations operating for peace, as well as projects that testify the international advocacy of this territory and the strong will to bind to other cultural and political realities, in building together a peaceful coexistence between peoples.

Opening greetings: Rolando Picchioni, Executive Director, The World Political Forum
Moderator: Rita Rossa, Vice president of the Province of Alessandria

The initiative is promoted by the Province of Alessandria and the World Political Forum.

7-19 December 2009
Copenhagen

The World Political Forum took part in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen, 7-19 December to submit to the attention of the participants the Memorandum for a World Water Protocol which has been elaborated by the international conference «Peace with Water», held in February 2009 in collaboration with the European Parliament Groups.

The WPF asked that water is inserted in the agenda of the COP 15 discussion, since the current «world water crisis» is at the core of the environmental problems for which the UNFCCC meeting was searching a solution. The Memorandum exposes in fact the reasoning that justifies the urgency of an initiative in favour of a new worldwide water policy, inspired by a new political paradigm. It represents a contribution to the international governmental negotiations currently being defined, in view of the outline and approval of the new post-Kyoto 2013 agreement.
