European Dream - Promises and Reality

The international seminar “European Dream – Promises and Reality”, dedicated to the 50 years of the Rome treaty, was promoted by the World Political Forum in collaboration with the office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Ferenc Gyurcsány and took place on 27 and 28 November in Budapest, Hungary.

Many important personalities of the international political scene forgathered to discuss the great challenges that the European Union has to face in the new international political context. Globalization makes the world rotate much faster it is not easy for the European Union to keep the pace. Europe is called to find a new political energy, searching for the necessary balance between competition, cooperation and solidarity.

The event had the purpose to define the situation of the European Union 50 years after that the Rome treaty was signed by six founding members (25 March 1957), after the extraordinary changes occurred in Europe at the end of the Cold War, and after the widening of the UE.
