Following the end of the Cold War, the international community has, inevitably, had to face new challenges, having to do with rapid globalization, or with outdated politics unable to solve new problems. Growing intolerance and violence, reliance on the use of force and unilateral actions which bring tragedy to millions of people seem to lead politics and politicians into dead-ends.

The International Conference “Media between Citizens and Power“ was promoted by the World Political Forum and the Province of Venice, within the Project Ethical Province. It was intended to be a work project for the identification of the contradictory tendencies which permeate globalization: from concentration to distribution of resources, from democratisation to control, from local to global institutions.

The Olympic Truce is a historic tradition of the Olympic games dating back to the ancient Greeks, which was to end all wars during the Olympic period to allow all competitors to travel to Olympia for the games, despite any wars that might have been on at the time.
