Former Member of the Chamber of Deputies Foreign Affairs Committee. He was given the title of Grand’Ufficiale al Merito della Repubblica Italiana by former President of the Italian Republic Scalfaro, and in 2002 he also received the title of Cavaliere di Gran Croce al Merito della Repubblica Italiana from President Ciampi. In 1995 he was elected (and in 2000 re-elected) as President of the Piedmont Region and in 1997 Chairman of the Conference of Regional Presidents. In 2008 he became Senator of the 12th Italian Standing Committee (Sanitation and Health).
